Planning Ministry denies reports that say there is currently unrest in Gulheefalhu initiated by workers from the Thilafushi Bridge contractor Afcons after one of them died of 'medical negligence'.

Reports circulating on social media suggest that workers from AFCONS are protesting in Gulheefalhu after one of their fellow workers died today and the reports suggest that the worker had been suffering from a fever for the last three days without sufficient medical treatment.

But the Ministry vehemently denied these reports.

The manager of the Bridge office formed at Minister Mohamed Jinan said to the Press that the worker had died of a heart attack.

Jinan said that an Indian worker for AFCONS was taken to Treetop Hospital yesterday after he suddenly had chest pains and that he died while under treatment at the hospital.

He further said that following the death of the worker, today and tomorrow were declared as holidays for the AFCONS worker.

Jinan added that there was no unrest in Gulheefalhu. He said that social media reports that say that the Site Manager have sustained head injuries during the scuffle was also untrue and that there has been no such incidents.
