Police have arrested an activist from the opposition PPM after she bit a police officer during a protest held by the opposition.

The Court has now remanded 20-year-old Aishath Nuha Ahmed for five days in police custody.

The Court Order issued after her remand hearing stated that Nuha has been accused of assault and obstructing the police from performing their duties.

It said that the suspect's defense has claimed that her arrest was made illegally but statements from two police officers who attended the scene prove otherwise.

The Court order also said that Nuha had refused to sign the form that states that she was given legal warnings but the two attending officers have signed the form.

It further noted that Nuha has several arrest records and that this time she was arrested as per the procedure.

Nuha has denied the allegations against her but statements from the Police officers said that the suspect had bit one of the officers while they had tried to take her under custody.
