The Criminal Court has ordered state prosecutors to hand over the investigative documents conducted against former MP for Villimale Constituency Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik who is being charged as part of the MMPRC scandal.

The Criminal Court made the order at the preliminary hearing of the trial against Nihan.

Nihan's lawyer Hosni Mubarak said he needed to see the investigative documents before the trial begins. In turn, State Prosecutor Ina Moosa argued that not being able to view these documents should not hinder the defense from delivering its preliminary statement.

Presiding judge Ali Adam decided to allow the accused to examine the investigative documents and to make an opening statement at an upcoming hearing.

The State has charged Nihan with 2 counts of accepting bribes, 2 counts of soliciting bribes, and money laundering.

The prosecution initially filed six charges against Nihan for six offenses that he had allegedly committed while chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of the Parliament.

But the State then took back the charge of 1 count of bribery against him and he is now facing a total of five charges.
