Indian Authorities have seized a huge load of narcotics which they say was bound to the Maldives as well as India and Sri Lanka.
Indian media cited its Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) which said that the drugs were seized in a joint operation between the Bureau and the Indian Navy.
The reports said that 2,500 kg of narcotics were seized from a ship at an undisclosed location in Indian waters.
It was also reported that the contraband – high-purity methamphetamine, also called crystal meth – is valued at around RS 12,000 crore.
NCB said that it is the biggest drug haul in the country in terms of the monetary value of the seized substance.
Indian media reported that a Pakistani national was arrested in the operation.
Speaking to reporters at a press briefing, Deputy Director General (ops) of NCB Sanjay Kumar Singh said some of the seized packets carried ‘made in Pakistan’ seals.
He said the substances were meant to be distributed in India, Sri Lanka, and Maldives.
