The foundation has been laid for the first-ever mosque being built in the Palestinian enclave city of Gaza with generous aid from Maldivians.

The project is being overseen by the local charity organization International Aid Campain IAC, who shared pictures of the ceremony held yesterday in Gaza.

IAC said that top officials from Gaza took part in the event along with the citizens of Gaza who live in the area.

It said that the mosque is to be named 'Masjidul Ghuhdhoos' and that when completed it can host 1,100 people. It also said that the mosque would be built with a minaret and a special area for women.

IAC said that the area for women would be on the first floor of the mosque and that it can host around 390 people. The organization said that the project to build a mosque has been given to a contractor from Gaza and that the mosque is expected to be finished by the end of this year.

IAC is carrying out several aid campaigns in Muslim countries fueled by donations from Maldivians.

They had recently distributed Eid gifts to children in Palestine and Syria and distributed food packages to those in Bangladesh.
