Maldives Meteorological Service cautions the public in relation to the scorching temperatures affecting the country this month.

It said today April is the warmest month of the year across the Maldives. The Met said that it is also the transition month between the two monsoons and as the winds weaken significantly and high humidity stagnates, the warm air temperature is exacerbated as the feel-like temperature.

The Met Office said via Twitter that generally, the maximum temperature of the day is recorded around 2:00 pm.

It noted that high temperatures can cause heat exhaustion in many and listed the symptoms of the condition. The Met office said that symptoms of the condition include heavy sweating, cold, pale, and clammy skin, weakness, and fainting, as well as dry, hot, red, and burnt skin too. According to the Met Office heat exhaustion can also cause vomiting and a fast as well as weak pulse.

It said that elders, children, outdoor workers, and athletes are most susceptible to this condition.

The Met Office listed several prevention methods for the condition including drinking plenty of water and avoiding liquids with lots of sugar. It also recommended wearing light-colored clothes, limiting outdoor time during mid-day and using sunglasses, umbrellas, and SPF-15 sun screen when outside.
