Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed Miuvaan says the government would not intimidate anyone due to their political stances but noted that there is no need for political appointees to keep their posts if they keep on talking ill about government policies.

Answering a question from a local journalist at his regular news conference today, Miuvaan said that this government has never intimidated anyone employed under the government.

Miuvaan said that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih appointed and dismissed individuals to political posts under the powers vested to him as per the Constitution.

He said these appointees were not selected like usual civil service jobs with employment contracts and job announcements.

Miuvaan said that those performing these jobs are tasked with implementing the President's policies and performing responsibilities assigned by the government.

The Presidential Spokesperson said that if those individuals perform the assigned tasks during office hours but go out with people of other ideologies and berate the same policies they help implement then they should not be holding such posts.

He added that firing someone for underperforming or disobeying the contract would not be considered as political dismissal.
