MDP Chairperson and Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail says MDP needs its President Mohamed Nasheed's support to secure the upcoming elections but that the party can win the elections without his support.

Speaking to reporters after meeting with the coalition leaders, Fayyaz said that he wanted Nasheed's support ahead of the elections and to work with Nasheed to help secure the election for MDP.

Pointing out the separate political movement Nasheed is currently spearheading within the party, Fayyaz said that everyone could not have all they want and that it was impossible for two people to be at the helm of the government simultaneously.

He said that it was common for party members to express their thoughts on the party's leaders and that he had no qualms about it.

Fayyaz said that actions are not taken against those expressing their thoughts both in the government and within the party. But if the situation warrants he said that such action would be taken.

The MDP Chairperson said that for the good of the country and the people, it would be best if President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to win a second term in office and invited all to work with him to achieve this.
