A man from Raa Atoll Innamaadhoo has caught a marlin that weighs 170 kg.

Ibrahim Nazeer is reported to have the mega fish while out in the sea alone. Another vessel out at sea helped Nazeer reel in the fish which he later sold for more than MVR 3,000.

He sold the marlin at the rate of MVR 20 per kg. Nazeer is believed to have caught a blue marlin one of the 4 species of Marlins found in Maldivian waters.

Fishermen from the island say that catching Marlins are common these days and that recently some fishermen had caught a marlin that weighed around 300 kg.

Native to the tropical and temperate waters of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, blue marlins are among the most recognizable of all fish. They are cobalt-blue on top and silvery-white below, with a pronounced dorsal fin and a long, lethal, spear-shaped upper jaw.
