The government of the Maldives says it has not received any proposals from Israel's national flag carrier El Al Israel Airlines though it announced that it is looking to start flights to the Maldives.
In an interview with Reuters news, the airline's Chief Executive Dina Ben-Tal Ganancia said El Al was looking to resume flights to India and add flights to Australia, and possibly the Philippines, Singapore, and the Maldives at some point.
She added that it also plans to expand its Boeing 787 fleet from 16 to 22 aircraft by 2028.
In response to these reports, Presidential Spokesperson Miuvaan Mohamed said today that there has been no such proposal from either Israel or El Al airlines.
In a curt answer, Miuvaan said that there have been no such agreements and arrangements and that the Maldives and Israel do not even have an Air Service Agreement between them.
He added that the two do not even share economical relations.
Currently, there are no direct flights between the Maldives and Israel right now but passengers can travel between the two destinations by transiting in another destination.
