Police say they have taken samples from the dead body found floating in the sea last month near Vaavu Atoll Vamparufalhu.

The body was found north of Vamparufalhu in early January and Police had said then that they were investigating the case and that they would take DNA samples from the dead body.

Today, the Police said to the media that they have taken the samples needed for their investigation but did not give details of the samples taken. Police also said that they have buried the body and that they were still investigating the matter.

The dead body cropped up while authorities were investigating the disappearance of two individuals who had set out on a oil-carrying vessel.

The individuals were identified as 45-year-old Mohamed Nizam and Bangladeshi citizen 35-year-old Mohamed Litan.

In a surprising turn of events, Nizam was later found in Male' and subsequently arrested on alleged murder accusations.
