First Lady Fazna Ahmed expresses her wish to see island communities promoting smoke-free beaches, a sentiment echoed by Vice President Faisal Naseem.
The First Lady made the comments while speaking at the final events of the INSPIRE Shore to Open Water Festival held on Dhonfanu Island in the Baa Atoll yesterday.
Speaking at the event First Lady commended the exemplary strategy adhered to by Soneva Namoona to create a fondness for the ocean and awareness of ocean safety.
She also emphasized the importance of learning to swim and water rescue skills. She also expressed her wish to see island communities promoting smoke-free beaches which is both an environmental and public health issue.
She stated that this would eliminate the possibility of children finding the byproducts of smoking when they play on the beaches.
Her comments were echoed today by Vice President Faisal Naseem as he spoke at the inauguration of Kudagiri Picnic island.
Speaking at the event, Vice President Faisal said that all who visit the island must respect the rules to keep the island clean and safe for all and that this includes not smoking on the island as it would be most benificial for all healthwise.
