MP for Ungoofaru Constituency Mohamed Waheed says parties must stop taking action when certain MPs fail to meet the party whip line.
He said this in response to the emails by MDP Parliamentary Group Leader Ahmed Aslam in which he had accused MPs of breaching party regulations.
MP Waheed said that the parliamentary group regulations as well as the MDP constitution ensure equality among MPs and strive to create cohesion and unity between the MPs.
He accused the MDP PG group is acting against these regulations and has been practicing selective justice against certain MPS.
MP Waheed said that his concerns on a matter directly related to the public were dismissed and certain technicalities mentioned in the MDP constitution were overlooked.
He further said that the constitution and laws give any individual the right to defend him/herself against accusations and the action against him within the party was unacceptable.
Under the MDP PG regulations, if an MP is found to have gone against the party whip line, the Whip line must ask the reason behind the MP's reasoning.
MDP PG issued a three-line whip against the proposed State Budget for 2023 but MP Waheed along with 4 other MPs voted against it.
