President of MDP Mohamed Nasheed says he has no intention of leaving the party and forming a new party following his defeat in the party's first-ever competitive presidential primary.

Nasheed lost to President Ibrahim Mohmed Solih by a margin of nearly 9,000 votes.

Speaking to his campaign in public for the first time since his defeat, Nasheed said that he was thinking of forming a separate branch within the party to promote his campaign theme, 'Fikureh ge Dhirun' (Rebirth of an ideology).

Nasheed said that to his knowledge political parties succeed with organization and that MDP is the only political party he knows.

He further said that in his opinion, MDP is not a party that can be disunited or defeated and that it was a strong political party.

Nasheed also said that there is no way his political movement can be stopped within the party as the work was from him and his supporters. He went on to say that he did not have any intention of leaving MDP and forming another party.

Nasheed called on his supporters to form party branches that gave voice to his political movement and said that he wanted members who wanted to stand on their own two feet without help from the government to join the movement.

He added that all MDP members have the chance to join up with his movement and repeated his prediction that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih would not win the September Presidential elections.
