Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed says he won't accept the results of the party Primary held today which saw his rival President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih win the MDP Candidacy for the September elections.
Temporary results published by the party show that President Solih has secured 61 percent of the votes which amounts to 24,572 while Nasheed received only 39 percent of the votes.
In a message to the party's WhatsApp group, Nasheed said that his team was going through the voting result sheets and that he had won more votes in most of the ballot boxes.
He further said that the current result is due to the fact that President Solih had won a massive number of votes from a select few ballot boxes.
These comments were also repeated by Nasheed's election agent, the MP for Henveiru Hulhangu Constituency Hassan Latheef. He said via Twitter the huge margin between the two candidates was due to the unusually high number of ballots in some boxes.
Earlier, MP Latheef said that Nasheed had secured the candidacy by winning 64.7 percent based on the exit polls.
