Maldives Democratic Party MDP has criticized the camp of the Leader of the Party Mohamed Nasheed for sending a letter addressed to the chairperson of the party outlining their concerns and recommendations ahead of the party Primary next Saturday.

The team highlighted 20 points in its letter to Fayyaz in order to ensure a fair and objective Primary and said that they need to be followed.

Responding to this at a press conference today, Deputy Chairperson of MDP Ibrahim Waheed said that most of the things outlined in the letter were already in practice and that this letter was not sent in connection with the Primary election.

He highlighted that the letter said that the voters' list must have the signatures of both the candidates but that the party had already finalized the voters' list by the time it received the letter last night.

Ibrahim noted that the letter was dated April of 2022 and said that Nasheed's camp did not send the letter with good intentions.

He aimed criticism at former chairperson Hassan Latheef who had signed the letter demanding the implementation of some points that he himself did not implement during his tenure at the head of the party.

Ibrahim said that the party leadership received this letter when it had the election to appoint a chairperson earlier this year and the only thing that changed from that letter was the date.

He added that the leadership had tried to implement most of the things and that there had been no complaints about the points that were not implemented.
