Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed says the statement that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih supports a Presidential system of governance is a lie.

In an interview with Raaje TV last August, President Solih said that he did not support a parliamentary system of governance and also called on Nasheed to withdraw his resolution to the MDP Congress that called for a system change.

Nasheed accused the President of lying about his preference in the Speaker's exclusive interview with Dhivehi Channel.

He said that the President indicated that he preferred a Presidential system of governance and that this was a lie.

Back in 2007, during the referendum taken for the system change, MDP supported a Parliamentary system but now President Solih and his supporters back a Presidential system.

Nasheed repeated his accusations that the vote was rigged back in 2007 and that he remembered that the number of people who voted exceeded the number of people eligible for the referendum.

The Speaker also said that forming coalition was more relevant to a parliamentary governing system.
