Maldives Food and Drug Authority MFDA says it is prohibited to import, market, and sell products from the international baby food brand Gerber without registering the products with the authority.

In a statement, MFDA said that it has come to its attention that some shops and social media pages are selling Gerber products without registering them first. The Authority asked the public to report any shop or social media page that is selling these products without registering them first and requested the public to contact the authority via 3014361 during official hours.

It added that the public can reach the authority via 7603204 during unofficial hours.

MFDA said that baby formula and foods can only be made, imported, or sold after the products are registered at the MFDA as per its regulation.

It further said that the main reason for registering such products is to ensure the safety of babies, children, breastfeeding mothers, and expectant mothers as well as to make sure that they receive nutritious food options.

MFDA noted that another reason to register such products is to share information on how these products should be marketed and sold to maintain their standards.

It added that selling these products without registering cannot ensure the quality and safety of these products.
