Police have urged the public to be wary of scams related to the World Cup 2022 that kicked off in Qatar last night.

Police said that score prediction and rewards links might be circulated ahead of the matches and warned the public to be cautious about such links.

They also asked the public to report such links through their hotlines 119 and 332111.

Many local businesses have launched score prediction promos to generate revenues as locals prepare to enjoy the month-long tournament in the small gulf state.

But scammers are using these legitimate promos to target customers through scams and rob many thousands of rufiyaa.

Recently, Police said that scammers were attempting to use a tragic fire in Male' to generate income by circulating links to supposed videos of the fire and hacking users' phones and other devices to retrieve bank codes and other vital information.
