The government has allocated 17 percent more for the Health Sector in its proposed budget for 2023, backing its promise to increase the salaries of health sector employees.
Speaking at the Parliament today, Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer said that health sector employees would be the next to get a salary hike and just as President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said, the budget aims to harmonize salary structure for health sector employees.
The government has proposed a budget of MVR 42.68 billion for next year and 12 percent of this has been allocated for the health sector.
While this amounts to MVR 5.02 billion, this is an increase of MVR 530 million more than last year.
In the budget, MVR 2.5 billion has been allocated for health sector employee expenditure while MVR 995 million have been allocated for medical supplies and consumables.
The government has also allocated MVR 54 million just for the Cancer Hospital in Laamu Gan and MVR 73 million to build tertiary hospitals in the country.
