Police have denied reports that say that Police had hurt a woman who visited its station in Addu City.
This comes after a video circulated on social media showing a woman who entered the Police station being pushed onto the ground.
While many are criticizing the law enforcement agency, Police said in a statement that its officers in Addu City had stopped a man in Hulhumeedhoo of the city last Friday and that the man was stopped during a patrol as Police aim to curtail theft and drug networks in Addu City.
Police further said that while its officer was questioning the 37-year-old man, a 35-year-old woman had interrupted the questioning and hindered the police from performing their duties.
They said when the male suspect was taken to the Police station the woman along with another female had entered the station and shouted for the release of the man in custody.
Police said they had asked the two women to stop their shouting and exit the premises but that the woman refused to comply and that Police were forced to use the powers vested in Police to establish peace and try to escort the two out of the station.
They said that two female police officers sustained minor injuries in the ensuing scuffle.
Police said that they would investigate the obstruction in their inquiry and also check whether how its officers had acted in the situation and further investigate the matter.
