The Opposition coalition has confirmed that bad weather has forced former President Abdullah Yameen to postpone his trip to the Haa Alifu Atoll.

Yameen was scheduled to depart to Haa Alifu Atoll today with stops in Kelaa, Baarah, Dhihdhoo, Ihavandhoo, and Thurukaanu on the cards.

The opposition coalition said that the 5-day trip was postponed due to rough seas and tough conditions. It further said that if weather permits, the ex-President would be making his trip next Saturday.

The opposition said that the purpose of this trip is for the opposition leader to meet with his supporters on this island. It further said that another purpose of this trip is to gather information before making its manifesto ahead of the 2023 Presidential election and also strengthen its preparation in the Atolls ahead of the election.

The opposition noted that Haa Alifu Atoll has seen major developmental projects during ex-President Yameen's tenure. It listed that 14 projects were in Ihavandhoo, 16 in Kelaa, 27 in Dhidhoo, 17 projects in Baarah, and 15 in Thuraakunu.

While the Opposition has chosen Yameen as its Presidential Candidate for 2023, it has now kicked off its campaign with the former President making a trip to Kudahuvadhoo last month.
