Police have arrested a staff from Hanimaadhoo Airport for making a comment about a pistol during a routine personnel check.
The Press has come to know that during an operation carried out shortly before President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's plane landed in Hanimaadhoo, an airport employee commented while security officers were searching his colleague.
The employee had asked the officers to search thoroughly as his colleague might be carrying a pistol. Police arrested the employee who made the comment.
Police said they made the arrest because of the employee's words that may have compromised airport security and that the man was arrested for questioning.
Sources have said that the employee had made the comment as a joke.
There are several words that cannot be said in an airport and an airplane and those include 'gun', 'pistol' as well as 'bomb', and 'explosives'.
Recently a local couple was arrested at Gan International Airport after the man had said that he had a bomb in his bag. The 61-year-old man was taken into custody along with his 58-year-old wife but both were released a day later.
