Police say they have arrested three local men in relation to a case of homosexuality.

They said that the three locals were arrested yesterday and that they were apprehended under a court-issued arrest warrant.

Police identified the suspects as a 45-year-old man, a 47-year-old man, and a 49-year-old man.

They also said that the court had remanded the 45-year-old to 5 days in prison while the other two were remanded for 14 days.

Such cases have been on the rise in recent times after several videos were leaked online which prompted the authorities to arrest the Bangladeshi national who features in all most all of the videos.

The man named MD Alamgiri was indicted and his trial was fast-tracked after he confessed to the crimes. The Bangladeshi national was given a sentence of 7 months in jail which raised a few eye brows as he had confessed to having homosexual relations with more than 200 men in the Maldives.

Police arrested several locals in relation to the videos with Alamgiri but did not clarify whether the 3 arrested yesterday were related to this case.
