Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali says around 1,500 students from the Atolls transferred to schools in Male'.

The Minister said this while speaking at the Parliament today after she was summoned to the floor on the request by the MP for Kelaa Constituency Ibrahim Shareef.

Answering the question of why the number of students from the schools in the Atolls is declining, the Minister said that around 1,500 students have transferred to schools in Male' this year alone and that she estimates they are students who have moved to the Hiya Flats with their families.

The Minister noted that many of the students who transferred from the Atolls were enrolled in the schools located in Hulhumale'.

After her response, the MP for Hoarafushi Constituency Ahmed Saleem asked what the Ministry had planned for higher education in islands with the declining number of students.

The Minister said that the Ministry was now studying the effects on its budget if it introduced satellite system-based education for higher grades.

She added that the Ministry would strive to provide a good educations to such students too.
