The Criminal Court has found Bangladeshi national MD Alamgiri guilty of homosexuality after several videos of him having sex with men were leaked online last month.
The trial is being held behind closed doors and had its first hearing today in which Alamgiri was indicted for homosexuality. In the hearing, the Bangladeshi national pled guilty to the charges after confessing to the crimes.
This prompted the presiding Judge Ali Adam to fast-track the sentencing for the trial.
As fast-track sentencing cases are generally heard in the presence of all relevant parties, the hearing which first began online was then moved to the court to facilitate the quick sentencing against Alamgiri.
Alamgiri had maintained his plea even as the hearing proceeding in the court room both the defence and the prosecution talked about sentencing for the defendant.
The defence had then asked the court for leniency when sentencing but it was unclear what the prosecution had asked for a sentence for the Bangladeshi national.
The Judge said that the sentence hearing against Alamgiri would be held tomorrow.
