Maldives Meteorological Services, the Met Office has confirmed that tremors were felt all over the Maldives today because of an earthquake in Sumatra, Indonesia.
The Met Office said that the 6.0 magnitude earthquake came around 08:29 am local time in Sumatra and that the quake was felt in the Maldives.
However, it said that there was no tsunami threat to the Maldives because of the earthquake. The earthquake occurred approximately 2854 km from the capital Male'.
Earlier, people in the Roshanee Building which houses the Health Ministry and several other government offices were evacuated on the streets because of the tremors.
The people working in the building were kept outside for a while before they were let back into the building. It was reported that MNDF had carried out an inspection of the building to asses any damage caused by the tremor.
