Thila Male' Bridge Contractor AFCONS of India has removed its platform that ran aground on Villimale reef earlier this month.
The massive infrastructure ran aground on the South East corner of Villimale's reef on the 16th of this month and locals as well as NGOs have been baffled by the inability of those responsible to refloat the infrastructure that has been striking the reef repeatedly.
But last week local authorities met with AFCONs and announced that the platform would be removed from the reef within two days.
Though the 2-days passed with further inaction from the contractor, the Indian company was able to remove the structure today afternoon after mobilizing several pieces of equipment and personnel to the remote area in Villimale.
Environmental Protection Agency EPA is set to inspect the area for damage as it had said that it would conduct the inspection once the platform was removed.
Local authorities have said that they would slap those responsible with an appropriate fine once the damage assessment was completed.
