Police say the man arrested for stabbing State Minister at the Environment Ministry Ali Solih has been remanded in custody for 15 days.
The attack had happened yesterday in Hulhumale' when Solih was attacked with a cutter while he was riding his motorcycle.
Police said yesterday that they had arrested a 43-year-old local man for the attack.
They also said that Police had taken the suspect to the Hulhumale' Magistrate Court for his remand hearing and that the court had sentenced the suspect to be kept under custody for 15 days.
A video of the attack has been circulating on social media and shows the assailant approaching Ali Solih who was on his motorcycle. The suspect then moves to stab the State Minister in the neck but Solih shows quick reflexes to avoid the attack by gearing up his motorcycle.
Through this, the State Minister was able to escape with just a cut to his form rather than a serious injury to his neck.
Police had confirmed that the individual arrested for the attack was the same man who was apprehended earlier this year for standing on the minbar of Salman mosque and shouting during Friday prayers.
Police had released him then saying that the suspect had been taking treatment for a mental illness.
