Environmental Protection Agency EPA says it is assessing the damage caused to Villimale reef after a platform brought in to build the Thila male' bridge ran aground on the reef yesterday.

The incident reported yesterday injured three workers on the platform who was treated at Villimale hospital for various injuries.

The massive platform has been repeatedly striking the reef with huge columns on the platform now sunk into the sea.

Talking to 'The Press', Director General at EPA Ibrahim Naeem said that the agency has already begun assessing the damage to the reef.

He further said that if the reef had sustained damages, it would take appropriate action against those responsible.

Environmental Organization 'Save the Beach' had also expressed concern stating that the stranded platform had been banging on the reef and further damaging the reef.
