Maldives Meteorological Services, the Met Office says the Southwest monsoon has become strong over the Maldives.
It said that this meant that in the next 3 days, fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms will be experienced over the country. The Met Office said that strong winds, rough seas, and the possibility of wave surges were expected.
It said that the wave surges are expected mostly in central and northern Atolls during the next three days.
The Met Office advised all and particularly seafarers to take necessary precautions in the next few days.
This year's monsoon season has become rather destructive in the Maldives as the country faced damaging weather conditions earlier this month too.
Several houses on 9 islands suffered damage during the bad weather bout earlier this month including storm surges and floods.
The National Disaster Management Authority NDMA said that farmers had suffered the most during the natural disaster and that 110 farms had sustained damage during the spell of bad weather and wave surges.
NDMA said that farmlands in Madaveli, Fiyoree, Hoadehdhoo, and Thimarafushi had sustained damages.
It said that some of the items grown for income purposes such as peppers, papayas, betel leaves, banana, breadfruit, and mango trees were destroyed.
NDMA assured that it was working to provide aid and relief to those affected by the incidents.
