A 22-year-old man has been arrested for attacking Police officers who had tried to stop a mob from attacking a civilian they had accused of child molestation.
The mob attack happened on Kaafu Atoll Dhiffushi on the 14th of this month and the suspect accused of attacking the police was also arrested on that day.
Police informed that the man was a local and that the suspect had been remanded in custody for 10 days.
They had also said that one of the policemen working to protect the civilian had acted outside the police professional code of conduct. Police added since the victim had lodged a complaint, Police Professional Standard Command is further investigating the matter.
The civilian accused of child molestation had suffered serious injuries at the hands of the mob which include facial injuries.
A social media video of the victim has circulated on social media in which he said that he was beaten up by the mob in front of the Police but they had done little to stop the attacks aimed at him.
He further accused that some of the policemen present at the scene had joined in on the beating.
