Maldives Meteorological Services, the Met Office have advised all to be cautious of possible bad weather over the weekend.

In a tweet, Met Office said that due to the enhancement of southwest monsoon activity in the region, scattered showers with thunderstorms and heavy showers are expected across the country over the next 72 hours.

It also said that strong average winds and subsequent rough seas are expected, especially in the north and central areas of the country.

The Met Office further said tidal surges are also possible during high tide times.

It said that everyone especially seafarers is advised to be cautious of weather information and take all necessary safety precautions.

Earlier, the Met Office had issued a yellow alert from Thaa Atoll to Addu City saying that torrential rain and heavy thunderstorms are expected in the area.
