Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed says he has serious concerns over the policing effort in yesterday’s event at the National Stadium that amounted to a serious security breach.
A group of youth had barged into Galolhu National Stadium to stop the International Yoga Day activities that were being held at the stadium.
Following the incident, many criticized the Poice for their lackluster efforts to contain the crowd outside the stadium and for allowing the crowd to breach the police lines and enter the stadium.
In a tweet, the Commissioner said that the Police were internally reviewing the security operation at the national stadium yesterday.
He assured that the Police will extend full cooperation to all inquiries conducted by relevant authorities.
The Commissioner further said that the Police would focus on taking swift action against those who unlawfully disrupted the event and that they would take corrective steps to improve their operations.
Earlier President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had said that Police had launched an investigation into the incidents at Galolhu stadium.
He had said that this is being treated as a matter of serious concern and those responsible will be swiftly brought before the law.
