The suspect arrested for spraying 'India Out' on the walls of the family home of the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has been remanded in custody.
The vandalism was carried out on the 30th of this month when the suspect had sprayed the anti-India slogan in bold green letters.
Police had then arrested a 28-year-old local man for the vandalism.
The Court had then remanded him in custody for further 7 days.
Police confirmed that this was given at the remand hearing held for the suspect at the Criminal Court yesterday.
Kenereege had been under MNDF surveillance after the May 6th attack against Nasheed outside the house. Right after the attack, the street was declared a no-parking zone after the attack targeting Nasheed was through an IED strapped to a parked motorcycle on the street.
The vandalism targeting Nasheed's family home came after the slogan was spray-painted on the door of Defence Minister Maria Ahmed's house in Male'.
Earlier, papers printed with the text 'India Out' were recently dumped outside the President's Office, Indian High Commission in Male, as well as outside the residence of Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid.
The anti-India campaign is currently led by the opposition and they had been expanding the campaign to the islands by holding rallies at different locations in the last couple of months.
