Police say they are investigating an incident where a group of people had barged into the office of 'Mihaaru' news and threatened its journalists.
They said that Police had received a letter shedding light on the incident and that Police would be conducting further investigations.
This comes after 'Mihaaru' issued a statement saying that many had been targeting the newspaper and its journalist and have been using several tactics to intimidate the paper.
The statement said that some have been misusing the articles written by newspapers and distorting the information written in articles by posting them online.
It also said that some were working to incite hatred towards the newspaper and that many have been bullying its reporters.
The paper said this led to a group of unknown people barging into the newspaper's office and threatening the staff there.
Meanwhile, yesterday Maldives Journalist Association MJA had called on the Police to take immediate action to investigate the complaint submitted by Mihaaru as a serious issue and take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of journalists.
