MDP's Chairperson-elect and Economic Ministry Fayyaz Ismail says MDP members had taken a strong democratic decision in the party's internal elections held yesterday across the country.

He said this in a letter to party members after securing the party's Chairperson post having beaten MP Imthiyaz Fahmy in the elections.

Fayyaz said that during yesterday's downpour, MDP members had come out and shown the best example of the democratic principles the party has been always lobbying for.

He further said that yesterday's election was a perfect example of how a competitive democratic partnership works and that which the party is built upon.

Minister Fayyaz also said that this win was a strong democratic decision made by the party's members indicating that the party must come together and work alongside the government to secure the 2023 presidential elections for MDP.

He thanked all the candidates that competed in yesterday's election while also showing gratitude for all those who came out to vote.

Temporary results of the MDP internal elections show that Fayyaz secured the chairperson slot by winning 28,514 votes amounting to 58 percent of the votes cast. MP Imthiyaz won 20,856 votes which are 42 percent of the votes.
