Police have arrested 5 individuals from a Hiya Housing unit in Hulhumale Phase II after the flat was searched under a court order.
The Court Order to search the area was issued after there were suspicions that a drug network was operating within the area.
Police said that those arrested under the case were between the ages of 19 and 26. They said that the individuals have been accused of possession, abuse, and trade of drugs and that the Criminal Court had remanded the suspects for 15 days under custody.
Police said that they had also found MVR 50,300 in cash as well as a drug-like substance in six packets along with tools used to make drug packets.
One of the suspects said at court that the cash found at the scene was given to him from his employer and that although drugs had been used at the location, there had been no drug-related transactions.
Another one of the suspects arrested from the scene had received rehabilitation for drug abuse and another had agreed in court that the individual went to the flat to use drugs. The suspect had also asked the court for voluntary rehabilitation.
