Health Minister Ahmed Naseem says authorities in the Maldives have begun research to find out the reason why the number of cancer patients has been rising in the country recently.

He made the comments while speaking at the ceremony held to mark World Health Day last night.

Minister Naseem said that the government is preparing to reinvent the primary healthcare system in the country.

He further said that the ministry had now begun work to find out how the number of cancer cases has increased in the Maldives and that it was working with World Health Organization WHO for the research.

Minister Naseem said that the most reasons for this work include providing healthcare that the people needs, making the people aware of health issues as well as making sure that they are mindful of these issues.

He added that the ministry is striving to make the public resilient to future pandemics, natural disasters, and environmental impacts.
