Minister of Youth Ahmed Mahloof says more money is spent on new year shows than the recently held Sports Awards but no one would raise questions about it.
The Maldives saw its first Sports Award on the 19th of this month and the Ministry is already planning to hold the ceremony next year. But the Ministry has also faced backlash over how much it had spent on the Awards show.
Speaking at the parliament today, Minister Mahloof said that the same amount of money was spent on the Youth Day ceremony and the Sports Awards ceremony.
He noted that even more is spent on the new year show but no one is questioning that.
Minister Mahloof said that the Sports Awards show garnered huge support and that tourism sector leaders have also highlighted how the event had promoted Maldivian tourism.
He added that while the Awards was successful, many are now lining up to sponsor the ceremony next year.
