Police say the foreigner seen at the opposition protest held yesterday is a foreign medical officer who works in the health and care sector at the Police.

Police gave the justification after the opposition made accusations that an unknown foreigner was seen with the police at the protest yesterday and that the police officers were acting on the man's instructions.

Speaking at the press conference held after the protest, PNC President Abul Raheem Abdullah said that he was sure that the foreigner was an Indian and that the protesters had seen police officers go up to the man in question to have discussions.

In a comment to the media, Police said that the foreigner present at yesterday's opposition-led anti-India protest is a foreign medical officer who works in the health and care section of the police force.

Police said that the medical officer was working with the police team yesterday and that the man had been receiving threats because of the way some media outlets had depicted him.

Police had refrained from clarifying the nationality of the medical officer. It has to be noted that Police had not used foreign medical officers in previous rallies held in Male'.
