The Prosecutor General's Office has launched an online platform through which it can be connected to island-level magistrate courts around the country.
The Department of Judicial Administration said that the online platform would allow the PG Office to easily share legal documents with the magistrate offices and that magistrate courts in 187 islands have now been connected via the platform.
Chief Judicial Administrator Aishath Rizna said with the platform, the work would be more efficient and it would resolve the administrative issues at the DJA.
She said that this was an important part of the digitalization work initiated by the Judiciary sector and once the complete Integrated Court Management System goes live, the courts would be more accessible.
DJA said that the Criminal Court had begun using the platform earlier this month.
It also said that the platform would only be used till the integrated Court Management System goes live and once it is online, case filing would be digitalized and automized.
Meanwhile, Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem lauded the achievement saying that the PG Office would now be able to submit cases electronically to all lower courts.
He further said that they were waiting to engage with the High Court.
