Transport Minister Aishath Nahula says the Civil Aviation Authority is working to compile a set of rules to regulate international airlines that land flights in the Maldives.
In her speech on the occasion of International Civil Aviation Day, Minister Nahula said that the Civil Aviation authority was now in the later stage of compiling this regulation set to be named 'Foreign Operators'.
She further said that the purpose of compiling the regulation is to standardize the work of international flight operators that schedule trips to the Maldives as well as to regulate their work in a transparent manner.
Minister Nahula said that the regulation is being compiled with input from industry stakeholders and experts.
She also that authorities in the Maldives have worked to further strengthen air security in the country and that the government had worked to strengthen existing regulations as per the EU Safety Regulations Structure the Maldives is currently following.
The Minister said that the main aim for the year is to take the civil aviation industry to pre-pandemic levels and to reach new heights as well. She noted that this includes increasing businesses for local airlines and to further develop airports in the country.
Minister Nahula noted that authorities in the Maldives are close to issuing permits that would allow helicopters to operate in the country and that Maldivian officials are working with their UK counterparts to issue the required permits.
