The Criminal Court of the Maldives has issued an order that blocks all online mediums that are used to spread religions other than Islam in the country.
The issuance of the court order was confirmed by Police.
Police said that it has collaborated with other relevant organizations to investigate websites, social media pages, youtube channels, and applications that aim to spread other religions in the country by targeting Maldivians.
They said that once they had submitted the findings of the investigation to the court, the Criminal Court had issued an order that blocks such online mediums in the areas that have internet services in the Maldives.
Police also said that they had now informed internet service providers to execute the court order by letter.
This comes amid widespread attempts to spread other religions in the Maldives including Christianity and such people have been using online tools to spread the rhetoric.
