Health Ministry says a retail markup of 100 percent can be applied to pharmaceuticals starting next year.

In an announcement, the Ministry said that the Medical Services Act stipulates that all pharmaceuticals rolling in the healthcare system must be assigned a maximum retail price MRP.

The Ministry said that a maximum of a 100 percent markup can only be given to the cost price of the medicines to set the MRP.

Health Ministry said it would be assigning MRPs of the pharmaceuticals in two phases.

It said in the first phase, the Ministry would assign and implement the MRP for all the essential medicines imported and sold in the Maldives starting January 1, 2022.

The Ministry said in the second phase, all the medicine imported and sold in the Maldives would be assigned MRPs and that this phase would roll out in mid-2022.

It also said that the Ministry would publish the list of essential medicines and MRPs for the medicine soon.
