Health Protection Agency HPA has placed 7 islands under monitoring today due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic on the islands.

The islands placed under monitoring include Raa Alifushi, Dhaalu Maaenboodhoo, Faafu Bilehdhoo, Gaafu Alifu Maamendhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Faresmaathodaa, Noonu Kudafaree, and Noonu Velidhoo.

This takes the total number of islands currently under monitoring to 31.

Out of these islands, Meemu Muli, Shaviyani Goidhoo, Baa Hithaadhoo, Thaa Thimarafushi, Raa Maduvaree, Raa Meedhoo, Raa Inamaadhoo, and Gaafu Alifu Kandukuladhoo were placed under monitoring this month.

Ten islands placed under monitoring last month still remain in the status while Faa Nilandhoo which was placed under monitoring in September still remains under monitoring.

Meanwhile, Addu City also remains under HPA monitoring after it was placed under the status in September as well.

The number of islands under monitoring has been increasing as the number of COVID cases reported from islands has also been steadily increasing over the last few weeks.

In the last 7 days, HPA had reported 648 new cases of COVID-19 from the inhabited islands in the country.
