The Prosecutor General's Office has formally filed charges against a man for threatening to blow up the Indian High Commission.
The PG Office said that it had forwarded charges against 42-year-old Mohamed Inad from MA. Resting House and that the charge had been filed at the Criminal Court.
PG Office also said that Inad was charged under sections 4 and 13 of the Anti-terrorism Act.
If Inad is found guilty of the charges against him, the 42-year-old could face a jail sentence between 4 to 6 years.
Police arrested Inad last July after he had tweeted threatening to blow up the Indian High Commission. He was arrested under a court order.
Security forced had ramped up security at the Indian High Commission along with the Chinese Embassy here in the Maldives.
Police have reminded the public that those who use social media to incite violence that would harm others and their properties are committing criminal offenses and that Police would investigate such social media posts and bring such agitators to justice.
