Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that 17 islands across the country are currently under monitoring due to COVID-19 cases reported on the islands.
The Agency said that today Alifu Dhaalu Mahibadhoo was placed under monitoring. It said that the island was placed under monitoring after a person who had presented at the island flu clinic with cold-like symptoms on the 24 of this month had tested positive for COVID-19.
Authorities had further said that a direct contact of that person had now also tested positive for COVID-19 and that there are two active cases of the pandemic on the island right now.
Meanwhile, yesterday HPA had placed Shaviyani Atoll Milandhoo under monitoring after several samples from the island's flu clinic had tested positive for COVID-19.
Local authorities had said that this includes three children and an adult and that 5 houses on the island are now under quarantine following the positive results.
Currently, 17 islands across 13 atolls are under monitoring following COVID-19 cases from the islands.
Raa Atoll Dhuvaafaru is the island placed under monitoring on the earliest date with it falling under public health scrutiny on the 25th of May.
Other islands include Kaafu Kaashidhoo, Shaviyani Feevah, Dhalu Kudahuvadhoo, and L. Mundoo.
