President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has temporarily relieved youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof from his duties today.
This was confirmed by the Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez who said that President Solih took the decision in light of the Anti Corruption Commission asking the Prosecutor General to charge the Minister in relation to the MMPRC scandal.
Mabrook said that the President had ordered the Minister to step aside from his responsibilities until the Prosecutor General decides on the course of action regarding the ACC's request.
The ACC had revealed today that its investigation into the MMPRC scandal had found that Minister Mahloof had received a bribe worth USD 33,000.
The Commission had further said that the Minister had shared with the ACC that this money was part of a currency exchange transaction but the investigation had revealed that this was not part of such a transaction.
ACC had also said that the Minister had attempted to deride the commission's investigation by submitting financial statements.
The Commission had mentioned two separate crimes in its request for charges against the Youth Minister and this includes charges against the Youth Minister including charges brought under Article 2 (A) of the Prevention and Prohibition of Corruption Act.
The ACC is also seeking charges related to giving false information to an official agency which is made a crime under Article 552 (A) and (B) of the Penal Code.
