MP for Hithadhoo Uthuru Constituency and Chairman of the Parliament's Committee on Oversight of the Security Forces Mohamed Aslam says neither President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih nor his administration is hindering the committee's inquiry into the security given to the Speaker of the parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed.
This comes after the speaker himself accused President Solih of using his influence to disallow individual MNDF soldiers from answering the committee's summons.
Speaking at a press conference by the Committee dubbed 241 Committee, MP Aslam said that the committee had not come across any attempts at an obstruction from the President or the government. MP Aslam said that he did not believe such attempts would even materialize.
MP Aslam went onto say that all the government agencies have so far been highly cooperative with the inquiry. He added that all the police officers and soldiers questioned had also given sufficient answers.
The 241 Committee had been summoning several high-profile officials in its inquiry into the Speaker's security prior to the assassination attempt against Nasheed last month.
This includes both heads of the security services in the country including Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed and Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdullah Shamal.
The committee had also summoned housing Minister Mohamed Aslam and several high-ranking officers from the police and the MNDF.
